This is a BRAND NEW OEM Trane/American Standard furnace Gas Valve. The Trane/American Standard Part # is VAL09028 (White Rodgers Model # 36J22-209). The valve has an 1/2" inlet and a 1/2" outlet. The valve is currently set up for NAT gas. Thanks for looking and good luck!
Function:
The gas valve is a low voltage control (usually 24 VAC) that allow gas into the combustion chamber. It is also an adjustable regulator that insures proper gas pressure for combustion. They have a manual shut off.
